PC gaming has come a long way in the last few years. AMD has changed the CPU landscape with the innovations made in the last few years. The company has been pushing for higher core counts, leading to AMD gaining more popularity than ever before.

While Intel’s higher-tier processors consisted of 4 core CPUs in the past, AMD introduced 6 core processors to the mid-range. Processors like the Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 5600X are notorious for their value and performance.

A recent survey was conducted by 3dcenter, and it seems like AMD has succeeded in its efforts to bring higher core count CPUs to the mainstream market. The survey indicated that 79.2% of PC users currently use processors with 6 or more CPU cores

Furthermore, the survey also indicates that AMD users have the highest core counts. This makes sense as their mainstream user base has shifted to 6 core processors like the Ryzen 5 5600X. The survey shows that 94.9% of AMD users have processors with at least 6 CPU cores. This number goes down to just 51.7% for Intel users

The report also shows an interesting result for the current PC user opinions. It is no secret that AMD has been very successful with the Ryzen line-up. 3dcenter’s survey shows that 62.7% of PC builders preferred AMD over Intel. In the same survey nearly five years ago, only 21% of PC users picked AMD over Intel.

While the survey does not paint an excellent picture for Intel, the brand could be looking to regain popularity with Raptor Lake. Alder Lake has already proved to be a much more competitive lineup, and Intel is expected to continue the trend with the upcoming generation.

The next-generation products are also right around the corner. Both AMD and Intel are likely preparing for some tough competition. AMD might be the current fan favorite, but Alder Lake has proved that Intel is no slouch.
