Dead Island 2 has finally been released for PC and console platforms after a long wait of 9 years and multiple delays.
Improving on its predecessor’s foundation, the open-world zombie survival game enhances the gameplay and delivers a satisfying experience, earning mostly positive reviews upon its launch.
According to a UK boxed charts report by GamesIndustry, Dead Island 2 was the best-selling boxed video game in the UK.
Dead Island 2 is also in the top 3 best video game releases of 2023, just behind Hogwarts Legacy and Resident Evil 4, the latter of which has already sold over 4 million units.
The list is followed by Minecraft Legends at number 2, out of which 76% of the game’s copies sold alone on the Nintendo Switch. The 3rd place is taken by Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp.
68% of Dead Island 2 copies were also sold on PlayStation 5, thanks to the console’s improved availability, effectively ending the long-standing 3-year shortage. Earlier, in the UK, 82% of physical copies of Hogwarts Legacy and 60% of overall copies of Resident Evil 4 were also sold on PlayStation 5.
It is to be noted that the UK boxed video game sales dropped by 6% despite the release of three new titles, which are leading the chart.
Dead Island 2 impresses with its stunning graphics and the recreation of a post-apocalyptic LA and San Francisco. In addition to its immersive gameplay elements, the game also includes a co-op mode and extensive weapon customization options.
However, it does not come without its share of technical flaws, and the combat system can sometimes feel repetitive. Nevertheless, the game has managed to live up to its predecessor’s reputation.
Have you bought the long-awaited zombie slaying release? What did you think of the game?
