Microsoft Reportedly Believed Redfall Would Be A Disaster

Already In Poor Shape When Microsoft Acquired Zenimax!

Redfall came out yesterday and quickly became the lowest-rated game from Arkane Studios. Ever since the announcement from the developer that the game would skip 60 FPS mode on Xbox Series S|X at launch, the game has not been subject to criticism.

With the discussion about the poor launch, it has been revealed that Microsoft did not have much involvement with the decisions for the game. On the contrary, a reliable leaker claims that Microsoft already knew Redfall would be a disaster.

Why it matters: Redfall was one of the most important games of the year for Xbox, and it saw plenty of marketing. The game was also not delayed, so many believed it would impress at launch.

During a recent podcast, Jeff Grubb said he was talking to someone from Microsoft and was told that Redfall would be a disaster. He stated:

“About A Month ago I was talking to somebody, and they mentioned Redfall is going to be a disaster, and that was coming from Microsoft’s side.”

As such, Microsoft may have been aware that Redfall was in rough shape, but the gaming giant pushed it out without further polish. Another insider, Jez Corden, also revealed that Redfall’s previous delay did not come from Microsoft.

According to Jez, Arkane Studios decided to delay the game, and Microsoft did not interfere much in the game’s development, even when it was clearly shaping up to be a poor title.

Redfall may have already been in rough shape when Microsoft acquired Zenimax. This could explain why the gaming giant did not have much faith in the title and released it without further polish.

After the terrible launch of Redfall, fans are worried about Starfield, as the previous reports from January hinted that both Redfall and Starfield were in rough shape. Jeff Grubb further said that if Starfield performs well on its release, it will compensate for the recent criticism.

Nonetheless, it looks like Redfall was always destined to be a poor release from a development team with a history of great releases, and Microsoft may have already seen this coming.
