Skull And Bones: Ubisoft Spent $120 Million On The Game

Huge Budget But Game Still Struggling!

Ubisoft’s Skull And Bones has been in development hell for over five years. First announced in 2017, the game is still unlikely to be released in 2023. The developer has spent many years on the game, allocating a budget of $120 million.

Why it matters: Skull And Bones started as a simple concept, but the game has evolved into a much more complex title. With a huge budget for the game, Ubisoft cannot afford a failure.

The information comes from Ubisoft Singapore’s Project Manager, with the Linkedin profile revealing that Ubisoft allocated a massive budget for the game.

However, the Project Manager departed from the company in 2022. Skull And Bones has received an extra year of development since then, and Ubisoft may have spent an additional amount on the game.

The gaming giant recently held its latest Ubisoft Forward. Skull And Bones was featured at the event, but Ubisoft did not provide a release date. It has already been delayed five times, and fans are concerned about more potential delays.

Following these disappointing updates, the game was delayed for the sixth time in January, but a closed beta is planned for August 25. Previously, the game received mixed feedback from playtesters, but Ubisoft may have made significant improvements for the upcoming beta.

When looking at recent AAA games, Skull And Bones’ budget is over half as much as God of War Ragnarok’s. The latter cost around $200 million and was released in an extremely polished state. God of War Ragnarok also won several awards, but Ubisoft’s ambitious multiplayer title may not be able to achieve similar accolades.
