One of the biggest video game publishers, EA, has gone through a massive restructuring internally. The company has split its studios into two different organizations, among other changes.

Why It Matters: EA is responsible for several different big video game IPs like Battlefield, FIFA, Star Wars, and others. A change this big could potentially change the future of these IPs.

This announcement came from the CEO of EA, Andrew Wilson, who delivered the news via a blog.

The two big studios are now called EA Entertainment and EA Sports. The former was previously known as EA Games, while the latter has retained its old name. Regarding the decision, the CEO of EA said:

These steps will accelerate our business, drive growth, and deliver long-term value for our people, our players, and our communities.

Laura Miele, EA’s Chief Operating Officer, is now appointed as the president of EA Entertainment, which will build the future of interactive entertainment based on the foundation of their legendary IPs.

On the other hand, Cam Weber will be appointed as EA Sport’s President, who will now be responsible for building the foundation of the new EA Sports IP, EA SPORTS FC, which will replace FIFA.

Cam Weber will have big shoes to fill, and Andrew Wilson will continue to oversee both organizations.

Although this restructuring will not affect any casual gamers, it will change the future of some beloved EA IPs.

Games like Battlefield need to make a comeback after an underwhelming last release, and it will be exciting to see the company’s future. This announcement coincides with the delay of EA’s upcoming IP, Immortals of Aveum.
