Red Dead Redemption 2 Mod Enables 60FPS Gameplay For PS5

Only Way To Play RDR2 At 60FPS On Consoles!

Red Dead Redemption 2 is often considered the benchmark for open-world titles. Despite being a last-generation game, Rockstar Games’ latest work is still praised for its world and visually stunning environments.

The game has sold over 50 million units to date, but Rockstar Games has not properly supported it for current-generation consoles. This means it has yet to receive an official upgrade on the Xbox Series X and PS5.

However, a Twitter user has created a mod to showcase the game running at 60FPS on PS5.

Why it matters: 60FPS is the standard for current-generation consoles. This has encouraged many studios to update older games, but Red Dead Redemption 2 has not received this treatment.

Rockstar Games continues to remain silent on the matter, which has made the community more restless.

Therefore, modders have taken it upon themselves to update the game before an official patch. The video shown above highlights the game utilizing the PS5 hardware to push a smooth 60FPS experience.

This was done through a hacked firmware (3.00-4.51) on the PS5. As such, most users will not be able to enjoy the game at this frame rate on their consoles. The Twitter user also did not share any additional details.

The game’s resolution at this frame rate remains a mystery. Red Dead Redemption 2 runs at a native 4K resolution on the Xbox One X and Xbox Series X consoles, but the PS5 version supports a lower resolution like the PS4 Pro.

In theory, the PS5 should be capable of supporting 4K gameplay for Red Dead Redemption 2, but it remains to be seen if Rockstar Games will patch the game for a higher frame rate and resolution.

Nonetheless, the footage highlights the incredible potential of Red Dead Redemption 2 on consoles. The game has no shortage of accolades, and a 60FPS patch would make it even better.

Previously, mods have allowed games like Bloodborne to be played at 60FPS. Despite their potential, the requirement of hacked firmware prevents these mods from being accessible to the larger console community.

Recent rumors have claimed Rockstar Games is working on a remaster of Red Dead Redemption. With the game likely to arrive on current-generation consoles, this could allow PlayStation users to enjoy the original game at 60FPS.

On the other hand, users looking to play the second game at a higher frame rate can consider the PC version. It runs well on most modern builds, easily pushing 60FPS or more.
