Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Needs At least 98GB of Storage On PS5

Almost Double The Storage of Spider-Man PS5!

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is continuing Insomniac Games’ universe of Spider-Man games on the PlayStation ecosystem.

With an October 20 release, the title has already generated immense excitement, even motivating studios like Remedy Entertainment to change release dates, avoiding the tough competition.

While more information about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected very soon, the PS5 Limited Edition console box has revealed that it will take up plenty of storage on consoles, asking for nearly 100GB on the SSD.

Why it matters: Game sizes have continued to grow, and 100GB is quickly becoming the new norm, with recent releases like Final Fantasy 16 also asking for similar storage.

As spotted by a Twitter user, the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition PS5 console box states that the game requires a minimum of 98GB of storage.

Compared to this requirement, the studio’s previous mainline game, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PS5, required around 53GB on the console. Therefore, the sequel has left its predecessor in the dust in this department.

It should also be noted that this is not the final size of the game. Following updates and a potential day-one patch, the game may exceed 100GB on the PS5 storage.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The new file size requirements likely come from the larger world and higher quality assets for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Insomniac Games is introducing Queens and Brooklyn to the game, leading to a map nearly twice as large as the original game. The game is also built for the PS5, with the more detailed assets likely contributing to the storage requirement.

With just over a month left before release, Insomniac Games and PlayStation are expected to pick up the pace with marketing. A voice actor has already hinted at extensive marketing one month before its release.

Following the release of Starfield, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have the industry’s attention to itself. PlayStation will likely use this opportunity to ensure fans stay excited for this anticipated release.
