Prepare Your PS5 SSDs!

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has received plenty of attention from the public recently. Following a new trailer at the recent State of Play presentation, the game’s release date was announced.

The JRPG will arrive on 29th Feb 2024 and offer around 100 hours of content, further expanding on the lore and universe of Final Fantasy 7. Square Enix has also allowed the media to get hands-on time with the game recently.

The previews have revealed even more information about the upcoming JRPG, highlighting that its massive world will require a decent chunk of storage. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will take a whopping 150GB of storage on PS5.

Why it matters: The PS5 SSD offers 825GB of storage, but less than 700GB of storage is usable. This means that PlayStation owners will have to sacrifice a large part of their base storage for the Final Fantasy title.

During a recent interview with Gameinformer, director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed several parts of the game, including its size.

He reiterated that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth requires two separate discs. While PS5 game discs can handle up to 100GB of data, the game requires an additional disc for the remaining 50GB.

The director also confirmed that, unlike the original game, fans only have to download the game once using both discs; then, they will not have to swap the discs in the game, and only one disc will be required to enjoy the title.

Naoki Hamaguchi also discussed the reason behind the requirement of multiple discs in the game. He explained that the studio always wanted to create a detailed world for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

A single disc would not have been able to achieve this goal and potentially impacted the quality as it would have forced the designers of the game to scale back on content and their creative ideas.

Therefore, choosing multiple discs was not a difficult decision for Square Enix.

The first previews provided much-needed insight to get fans excited for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

While Square Enix only allowed an hour of gameplay, the media has noted an impressive evolution of combat and exploration as the game builds on an already solid foundation from the 2020 remake.
