Redfall failed in more than just a few critical areas. The game launched with unimpressive visuals at 30FPS and exhibited broken AI, in addition to a plethora of other problems.

This resulted in a game that impacted the legacy of Arkane Studios. However, the studio has recently released a much-needed 60FPS patch for Xbox Series S|X. According to an insider, this may be just one of the many planned future updates as Bethesda plans to redeem the game.

Why it matters: Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 2042 have recently made massive comebacks after receiving similar criticism for a poor launch.

During a recent episode of Xbox 2, Jez Corden, an industry insider, elaborated on the future of Redfall. When the recent 60FPS patch was brought up, he highlighted that he had already lost hope.

Jez Corden believed Bethesda and Arkane Studios would abandon the game eventually, but he also pointed to an interesting conversation from a few months ago. The insider said:

“They were talking about sticking with the game for years to give it a redemption arc.”

Not too long ago, Pete Hines from Bethesda made a similar comment publically, pointing out that Bethesda would release the already announced 60FPS patch and make the game worth playing for future buyers.

Therefore, it seems Redfall has just taken its first step toward a long journey. The game is still in dire need of many changes to the mechanics, and Arkane Studios could be contemplating a massive overhaul along the lines of Cyberpunk 2077 2.0.

We believe this is good news since Redfall’s potential has mostly remained untapped. While the gaming industry has moved on since its release, several updates could result in players revisiting the first-person shooter.

Currently, Redfall is struggling to hold players. The game has barely retained any players on Steam, seeing next to no improvement after the recent update. Nonetheless, all hope is not lost if the report is anything to go by.

In the past, Bethesda has redeemed games like Fallout 76. While this online Fallout adventure was lambasted for a poor release, it is still receiving updates six years later. Therefore, a similar future for Redfall does not seem completely far-fetched.
