Spider-Man 2 Boasts High Engagement; 20% Players Got Platinum Trophy

20% of Players Got 100% Completion!

Story Highlights
  • Spider-Man 2 now holds the highest Platinum Trophy completion percentage of any first-party PS5 game.
  • More than 50 percent of players have also completed the main story.

While Spider-Man 2 launched last month, Insomniac’s latest title continues to make new headlines every week.

Following its release, the game seemed unstoppable after it became the highest-rated PSN game. In addition to these ratings, it broke the 2.5 million sales barrier in a single day.

Adding to these accolades, Spider-Man 2 boasts a much higher Platinum ratio than most PlayStation games.

Why it matters: Most gamers don’t go for a Platinum trophy. However, this instance highlights that Insomniac nailed the feeling of Spider-Man, encouraging players to go for this trophy.

According to PSN Profiles, the trophy achievement percentage of Spider-Man 2 is quite unexpected. While most Platinum trophies are earned by 6-7% of the total player base, a whopping 20% of Spider-Man 2 players earned this trophy.

For the unfamiliar, a Platinum trophy requires players to collect all other trophies in the game. While this process differs from game to game, it typically requires players to complete side objects, earn all collectibles, and beat the game on a higher difficulty.

Therefore, this percentage demonstrates that Spider-Man 2 is more engaging than most games. The addictive gameplay loop of swinging through New York as Peter Parker or Miles Morales has likely kept players engaged for more hours than expected.

Since the game’s main story can be completed in around 17 hours, this percentage suggests 1 in every 5 players stuck around for an additional 13 to 15 hours required to complete everything the title has to offer.

Looking at other PlayStation games, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s Platinum trophy was earned by 12% of players. Meanwhile, Insomniac Games’ first Spider-Man boasts a Platinum achievement ratio of just 8.4%.

It should be noted that this data counts players who connected to the internet to sync their trophies online. While this could mean some were left out, it would not make a massive difference to the overall completion percentage.

With Spider-Man 2 presenting quite a simple Platinum trophy and an addictive gameplay loop, these figures represent that millions of players enjoyed the game enough to play it for 30 hours or more.

The game is easily one of PS5’s best offerings, so this Platinum trophy likely became a worthy addition to everyone’s collection this year.
