Another Exciting Year For PS5!

Story Highlights

  • PlayStation has a packed 2024 with multiple exclusive and third-party titles planned.
  • PlayStation 5 Pro is also expected to launch in the same year.
  • A number of surprises could arrive on the platform in 2024.

The PS5 has had a great 2023. After severe shortages since its launch, the console finally became readily available and broke several records for Sony. According to reports, Sony’s latest console outsold the Xbox Series X 3-1 in 2023.

It also had a brilliant selection of both exclusive and third-party games for 2023. Between games like Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy 16, Hogwarts Legacy, and more, the platform kept millions busy throughout the year.

Sony also expanded its VR gaming endeavor with the PSVR2. Games like Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Call of the Mountain showcased this headset’s potential, becoming another compelling part of the PlayStation ecosystem in 2023.

While 2024 won’t be as eventual for the gaming giant, it should bring its fair share of exciting games.

Why it matters: In addition to the many games, Sony is expected to unveil the PS5 Pro for the first time next year.

Major First-Party Titles Coming In 2024

Kicking off the year will be The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. You could play it through backward compatibility on the PS5 already, but a native version was missing, and previous owners can access the remaster by paying just $10.

It also comes with some additional content, including a new rogue-like mode called No Return.

The Last of Us Part 2

February features the heavily anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The original title, released in 1997, is still considered one of the best in the franchise to date, leading to this game being the most anticipated for many in 2024.

Pacific Drive launches in the same month. Helldivers 2, one of PlayStation’s biggest live-service games of next year, is also coming out in February, following up on the beloved first game from 2015.

For Souls-like fans, Rise of the Ronin releases in March. Team Ninja is dialing the difficulty down a bit for this release, merging elements of Souls-likes and narrative titles for a story-driven release, unlike its past works from recent years.

Other major exclusives include Stellar Blade, Concord, and Foamstars. While these games don’t have concrete release dates, they should arrive during the first half of the year.

Third-Party Games & PC Ports

Horizon Forbidden West will be the first PC port for PlayStation next year. Going by past trends, fans should expect at least two more PC ports through 2024, expanding PlayStation’s influence on the platform.

To nobody’s surprise, some brilliant third-party titles are lined up for launch as well. Tekken 8 is easily one of the biggest on this list, arriving on the console on 26 January.

Following are some other third-party PlayStation games arriving next year:

  • Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown – 15 January
  • Persona 3: Reload – 2 February
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 – 22 March
  • Black Myth Wukong – 20 August

The Wildcards

While the aforementioned games already look exciting, the release dates for various games are still up in the air.

For starters, Silent Hill 2 Remake, the long-awaited return of the IP, is yet to receive a confirmed release window. However, there is a high likelihood of the game arriving in 2024.

Then there are games like Death Stranding 2. According to an Art Station profile, the game is due to arrive in 2025. However, since these dates can be a hit or a miss, some are hopeful about the possibility of a 2024 release.

Furthermore, recent leaks from Insomniac hint at a slew of free DLC updates for Spider-Man 2 coming in the year. This would be similar to the studio’s approach with God of War Ragnarok Valhalla’s launch earlier this month.

These are just some of the expected and confirmed (both exclusives and third-party) PlayStation titles releasing in 2024. We can expect more events like PlayStation Showcases to reveal this lineup as the year progresses.
