Support for AMD’s next generation Ryzen 9000 Desktop CPUs has been quietly released by MSI for its AM5 motherboards using the AGESA 1.1.7.0 BIOS.

After Asus, MicroStar International (MSI) has verified the next-generation Ryzen chips. However, this time, the motherboard manufacturer has been cautious about withholding the product name, merely referring to it as “next-gen CPU.”

The BIOS found on MSI AM5 motherboards is currently limited to a few motherboard models and is based on the slightly modified AGESA 1.1.7.0 Patch A.

While eight-core and six-core versions have previously surfaced in leaks, it looks like motherboard manufacturers have early test samples of AMD’s Ryzen Zen 5 CPUs. They are letting manufacturers test these chips in advance to launch a stable bios version at launch.

The next-generation CPU architecture from AMD, Zen 5, will replace Zen 4. While there is not a lot of information present regarding this new architecture, according to leaks, Zen 5 promises a 15% gain in IPC over Zen 4.

The most notable advancements will be in the cache and core architecture, which will have even bigger cache capacities compared to Zen 4. Furthermore, to increase efficiency and raise clock speeds above the Ryzen 7000, AMD will undoubtedly employ a far more recent TSMC manufacturing node.

The reason AMD and its board partners are already releasing BIOS upgrades with Zen 5 enabled is that Zen 5 is anticipated to arrive sometime this June during Computex 2024.

The only motherboard manufacturers with AGESA 1.1.7.0 already updated are Asus and MSI. However, Gigabyte, ASRock, and the other AMD board partners should follow shortly.

Additionally, this report verifies that the current generation AM5 motherboards will support the upcoming Ryzen 9000 series. However, this should not come as a surprise since AMD already promised to support AM5 till 2025.
