400% Revenue Increase Year-on-Year!

Story Highlight
  • Cl Games launched Lords of the Fallen in October 2023.
  • The game has been responsible for the company’s $60 million revenue in FY2023.
  • Other games accounted for around 17% of this figure.

2023 was very special in terms of Souls-like games. While Lies of P was considered the best of them all, Cl Games’ Lords of Fallen was also noteworthy for its use of Unreal Engine 5 and its unique dual-world mechanic.

Lords of the Fallen was far from the biggest critical hit, but CI Games boasted encouraging figures. The publisher’s latest report points to record revenue figures after this release.

Why it matters: The company can now aim for more ambitious and unique projects since the revenue will ensure it stays afloat.

Cl Games just revealed its Fiscal Year 2023 revenue ending in December 2023. The company has generated a whopping 60 million revenue this year.

For reference, this is a 400% year-on-year growth. This is a tremendous achievement for the publisher and remains significant because it is the highest revenue achieved in CI Games’ history.

Lords of the Fallen was directly responsible for 80% of the revenue. Therefore, it generated 48 million after selling 1 million copies in the first ten days. This brings it nearly halfway toward the goal of generating $100 million.

What’s interesting here is that the game was liked by North Americans. As per the report, 45% of the revenue came from North America. Meanwhile, the rest of CI Games’ catalog contributed to the remaining $12 million.

Among these games, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts was the most prominent. Overall, the Souls-like and other titles have paved a new path for this studio’s success.

Lords of the Fallen Tried To Recapture The Success of FromSoftware

Lords of the Fallen was praised for Umbral and Axiom, two separate realms that added more depth to the Souls-like. Meanwhile, it tried to emulate FromSoftware’s gameplay loop, offering challenging bosses and compelling build diversity.

The game was held back by poor performance, but it seems CI Games is already working on a sequel. According to reports, the sequel is targeting a 2026 launch, with multiple other games in development alongside this project.
