Helldivers 2 Became Top PC Game By Total Revenue In Q1 2024

A PlayStation Release Became Biggest PC Game!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 left every PC game in the dust in terms of Q1 2024 revenue.
  • Fortnite was still the biggest game of Q1 when looking at all platforms.
  • The likes of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Palworld also made quite a lot of revenue between January and March.

Helldivers 2 was considered a miraculous launch for PlayStation. As Sony’s first major live-service release, the game shot up the Steam charts in no time, selling approximately 8 million copies in no time.

Since then, the co-op shooter has consistently stayed ahead of the curve. Despite competition like the record-breaking Palwolrd, a report confirms Helldivers 2 became 2024’s biggest PC game in the first quarter.

Why it matters: PC gaming had no shortage of content from AAA studios. However, Helldivers 2 stood out, proving the importance of AA games and creativity.

According to analysts at Newzoo, Helldivers 2 was the biggest PC title of 2024 in multiple countries, including the US and others in Europe. It beat the likes of Fortnite, Palworld, and more to claim this spot. In fact, over 8% of total PC revenue came from PlayStation’s live-service co-op shooter.

Palworld displayed impressive results of its own, with the game being tied with Fortnite for 6% of all PC revenue. When looking at both console and PC gaming, Helldivers 2 landed in the top 3.

Fortnite finished in first place, topping the charts across consoles like PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and more. When comparing the latest releases in 2024 across all platforms, the likes of Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 finished in second place.

Helldivers 2 remained unchallenged here, and Palworld claimed the third spot.

Helldivers 2 Might Stay The Biggest Game of 2024 By The End of This Year

While Q1 2024 has been nothing short of incredible for Helldivers 2, the game seems to have begun losing pace after one small mistake.

PlayStation account integration has been made mandatory, leading to thousands of negative reviews. In fact, the recent reviews for the co-op shooter have gone from very positive to mixed on Steam within a few hours.

Arrowhead Game Studios has yet to respond after the negative reviews, but the team has already found all the success it could have hoped for.

Since Helldivers 2 has gained popularity through viral gameplay clips and positive word of mouth, no other release may be able to match this level of success in 2024.

A new Call of Duty, another EA Sports FC title, and more live service giants are still lined up for 2024. However, if Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op shooter continues at this pace, nothing will be able to stand alongside it by the end of this year.
