Assassin’s Creed Infinity To Heavily Focus On Microtransactions

Will Include Its Own Assassin's Creed Subscription!

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft seems to be leaning toward heavy monetization for Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
  • This platform is said to feature its own subscription service despite the existing Ubisoft + subscription.
  • According to leaks, this subscription may grant players access to older Assassin’s Creed games.

The gaming industry has faced criticism recently due to what many perceive as publisher greed. This includes issues such as releasing unfinished games, an abundance of microtransactions, and overall anti-consumer practices.

Ubisoft is no stranger to microtransactions either, with this element being heavily present in many of its recent single-player releases. According to reports, this focus will be even more prevalent in Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

Why it matters: Ubisoft seems to be blurring the lines between a single-player and multiplayer experience. In doing so, it runs the risk of failing to nail either one and landing somewhere in the middle.

Popular leaker j0nathan suggests that Ubisoft is looking to introduce a subscription service for Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

The subscription would provide access to older Assassin’s Creed games, although there’s uncertainty regarding access to new titles. Additionally, subscribers would enjoy access to future DLCs, along with one exclusive item/skin each month.

The leaker states that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will heavily focus on monetization. This aligns with previous speculation, including hints at the implementation of a battle pass system and a store for cosmetic items.

For the unfamiliar, Assassin’s Creed Infinity is not a new game. Instead, it’s Ubisoft’s own launcher or platform designed specifically for this franchise. The leaker hopes to generate negative publicity around Ubisoft’s microtransactions to encourage the publisher to reconsider its approach.

Since the studio already offers a subscription service, Ubisoft+, which includes Assassin’s Creed titles, it might remove those titles from the service, providing worse value for potential subscribers in the future.

Assassin’s Creed Red Leaks Point To Seasonal Content

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is rumored to release alongside another title in development within the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Red.

This means that Ubisoft’s first venture into Japan will serve as an experimental title that introduces these elements. However, we hope the team reconsiders its decision and keeps the series away from a live-service approach.

Future games like Assassin’s Creed Hexe are also expected to become part of this platform in the coming years.
