Rocksteady Taking First Step Before Moving On!

Story Highlight
  • Suicide Squad was said to receive four seasons of additional content post-release.
  • Rocksteady just confirmed that it is no longer doing weekly developer updates.
  • This could be the first step before the team pulls the plug on this live-service project.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has long been forgotten since its launch a few months ago. With fans leaving the game and Warner Bros blaming it for millions in losses, there isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said on this live-service disaster.

However, recent events point to an even worse fate for this title. Support for Suicide Squad is being dialed down in some capacity, with Rocksteady potentially showing the first signs of completely moving on.

Why it matters: Various developers have moved on from failing live-service titles in the past, so fans are already concerned about the future of Suicide Squad.

According to Rocksteady’s latest developer update, the team has confirmed that it will slow down developer updates.

For the unfamiliar, these developer updates came in the form of blog posts as part of Rocksteady’s live-service initiative. Each week, the team would discuss upcoming content, community feedback, and more.

Our developer updates will change from being weekly to releasing them when we have big news to share.

While this is a small shift, it may be one of many steps that highlight the team’s eventual departure from this project. It is no secret that Warner Bros is less than enthusiastic about this live-service title.

With less than 1,000 daily peak concurrent Steam players over the last two months, this four-player co-op shooter has seen much better days. Before launch, the team promised four seasons of content, adding new playable characters, stories, and cosmetics.

However, at this rate, fans are concerned about the team moving on before completing the four seasons. These concerns are not missplaced since Season 2 has yet to receive a release date, and Episode 2 of Season 1 was also delayed recently.

It is clear that perhaps the ship has sailed for Suicide Squad. However hard Rocksteady may try, the game is unlikely to find the success that Warner Bros wants from its biggest hits.

Perhaps it may be best for the team to focus its talents elsewhere, though the studio would run the risk of upsetting longtime fans in this case. Whatever the team’s direction, the road ahead seems quite challenging.
