Sony Officially Bringing PS VR2 To PC!

Story Highlight
  • PS VR2 has underperformed since the headset was locked to the PS5 ecosystem.
  • Sony now aims to bring the headset to a new market on August 7.
  • A $60 adapter will make the PS VR2 compatible with nearly all Steam VR games, but certain features will not be available on PC.

PS VR2, released in 2023, didn’t meet Sony’s expectations. The sales have been disappointing, leading to Sony halting production at one point. Due to this poor performance and lack of interest from Sony, the headset was expected to eventually become compatible with PC.

Following a long wait from PC users, Sony has made it official. The PS VR 2 will finally be headed to PC on August 7th, supporting nearly all Steam VR Games. However, you would need a $60 adapter to connect it

Why it matters: This virtual reality headset is quite competent, so PC gamers have asked for compatibility for quite some time.

The PC Support Could Be A Game-Changer For This Headset

The official PlayStation blog mentions that players would need to buy an adapter in order to play VR games on PC via Steam.

To start, players will need to purchase a PC adapter, which will be available for an estimated price of $59.99.

This will also allow games like Half-Life Alyx to be played on the headset. However, it is important to note that features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will not be supported when playing on a PC.

Fans who might be concerned that the setup could be complicated shouldn’t worry, as it is pretty simple. You just need to connect the PS VR2 to your PC via the $59.99 adapter and the DisplayPort 1.4 cable.

After that, simply download the PS VR2 app along with the Steam VR app. Then, you can set up and enjoy the virtual reality headset on your PC.

Some fans might find the price a bit unfair, but this technology was initially made for PS5.

Therefore, new hardware to help connect it to the PC could be costly. As of now, the headset is on sale, so it will cost you $450 for it and $60 for the adapter, which seems reasonable.
