Nvidia’s upcoming laptop variants for the GeForce RTX 50 series memory configurations were recently leaked. A ransomware attack on Clevo, a Taiwanese OEM and ODM company that manufactures laptops, appears to be the source of the materials obtained by Dominic Alvieri.

According to the source, at least six different GeForce RTX 50 laptop variations, all featuring the newest GDDR7 RAM, are in development, codenamed Blackwell.

Why it matters: Nvidia currently dominates the gaming laptop market, becoming the go-to choice for those seeking dedicated gaming machines.

The GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 should be replaced by the GN22-X11 and GN22-X9, respectively. If the codenames are to be believed, we might be looking at the GeForce RTX 5080 and the GeForce RTX 5090.

The current laptop variant of GeForce RTX 4080 features 12GB of RAM. Similarly, the GN22-X7 with 12GB of GDDR7 is also mentioned, leading us to believe that there might be two separate variants of GeForce RTX 4080 based on memory configuration.

On the other hand, the GeForce RTX 5060 and GeForce RTX 5070 will replace the GeForce RTX 4060 and GeForce RTX 4070, respectively, featuring GN22-X6 and GN22-X4 GPU. The Blackwell graphics cards have the same memory as their predecessors, except for the move to GDDR7.

It looks like 16GB memory won’t be available to laptop users until they upgrade to the GeForce RTX 5080. This might be disappointing for users, considering last-generation Nvidia laptop variants were already limited by low memory configurations unless you get your hands on the mobile GeForce RTX 4090.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Blackwell mobile series is expected to be launched at CES 2025. However, once the desktop family is introduced, which is presently anticipated to show up in late 2024 or early 2025, expect further details about these GPUs.
