Here’s How To Get Ready For Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree

Prepare For Another Challenging FromSoftware Experience!

Story Highlight
  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will finally be released on 21st June.
  • There isn’t much time left till the release, so players should get ready for the DLC.
  • The best way to get ready is to beat every single main boss in the game, prepare a solid build, and reach at least rune level 200.

Shadow of the Erdtree will be released tomorrow, and it seems like this is one expansion you don’t want to miss. However, I see that many players still don’t know how to prepare for it since FromSoftware DLCs are often more complex than the base game, and ambiguity is central to the experience.

After spending over 200 hours in Elden Ring, I have a few tips to guide you. Accessing the DLC is one thing, but preparing for it is completely different

Why it matters: To access the DLC, players would have completed a challenge many overlooked when playing the base game.

Miquella's Hand
Beating Mohg, Lord of Blood is Crucial For Players To Access The DLC

First of All, Beat Mohg & Radhan

The first step in preparing for the DLC is to best Mohg, Lord of Blood, and Starscourge Radhan. 62% of players on Steam haven’t beaten Mohg, so if you are one of them, get to grinding.

You must defeat him if you want to access Shadow of the Erdtree, or you won’t be able to enjoy it. Experienced players are helping those who couldn’t beat Mohg, but I don’t think that is ideal.

Mohg is one of the hardest bosses in the game, and if you can’t beat him, you may not be ready for the DLC.

FromSoftware DLCs are known to be harder than the base game, so if you are taking Mohg lightly and expecting broken builds or someone else to help, then you will likely get skill-checked in the expansion.

If you have beaten Mohg before and don’t want to fight him again, you can use Comet Azur on him or use the curved sword with bleed to kill him instantly. However, I believe you must beat the boss on your own at least once.

My Recommended Builds

I have no doubt that the DLC will be harder than the base game. So, your average build isn’t going to help much. A regular strength build might not be ideal, but if you still want to cosplay as Guts, go on.

I recommend using a bleed build, which should be insanely helpful. Bleed is crucial, in my opinion, as it does percentage-based damage, and we are talking about big numbers here. You can also use a hybrid build with fire and frost since that’s another reliable option.

One thing I’m bummed about with Shadow of the Erdtree…

Now, let’s talk about the build I am most excited about.

The build I’ll rock in the DLC is none other than the good old Dark Moon Greatsword and the relevant talismans and armor. With this build, you must maximize the magic damage and focus on charged heavy attacks after using the Ash of War.

I am 100% using this build in Shadow of The Erdtree, as the previews have pointed to a challenging experience.

Fight Every Main Boss In The Base Game

I have said this many times already, but I will say it again. The DLC will be harder than the base game, so you must be prepared. For that, I recommend beating every single main boss in the game, especially the remembrance ones and the ones that unlock achievements.

This will improve your reaction time as well as help you understand how to adapt to bosses. Also, try not to use summons or rely on other gimmicks while you are at it. This will help you further hone your skills.

If you can beat bosses like Morgott, Fire Giant, Godfrey, Malenia, Mohg, and Radabeast alone, then you are ready for the DLC. In my opinion, Malenia and Mohg will present the biggest challenge.

However, there is nothing more satisfying in Elden Ring other than besting these two beasts.

My Recommended Setup

I think the best level for you to enter Shadow of the Erdtree is over 150. I recommend getting to at least level 200 and activating the DLC on your first run. Do not try it out in NG+.

I know you can’t get to level 200 by just beating every boss during your first run. However, that is where farming comes in. There is a famous spot in Mohgwyn’s Palace. You can farm levels there, and you would be good to go for the DLC.

Also, try to collect different spells that do massive damage if you aim to go as a mage.
