I Still Prefer Wired Headphones Over Wireless Ones – Here’s Why

Expert Verified By

You should reconsider before going all wireless for your next headphone upgrade.

Story Highlight
  • The wired headphones provide better audio quality without any loss whatsoever.
  • You can always find superior wired headphone options on a similar budget, as wireless tech is much more expensive.
  • The wired headphones do not experience connectivity issues, as they do not depend on Bluetooth or other wireless connectivity tech.

Personally, I own both wireless and wired headsets. However, I still prefer the wired one, as I do not have to worry about its battery life or having to find myself with the connectivity issues that come with the wireless headphones.

I’m not saying that wireless headphones are bad; it’s just that they are not as good, especially for a similar budget. Besides the inconvenience of being a wired headset, it has other perks that make up for it, and those are enough to convince me.

It’s Not Always Expensive

Affordability is one of the most important aspects that budget gamers or PC users look at. Not everyone can spend an ample amount of money on each component or accessory.

Headphones are also one of them, and comparatively, the wired ones are considerably less costly to procure as they do not require components like batteries, Bluetooth modules, and other stuff to manufacture.

This makes wired headphones an easy choice for those looking for something good on a tight budget, mainly because the wireless option is going to cost you more in order to achieve the same level of quality and user experience.

Doesn’t Weigh As Much

People often overlook this aspect of the headphones and then express their dissatisfaction regarding the discomfort their heavy headphones cause. Most wireless headphones are usually heavier than their wired counterparts due to the additional components tucked inside for wireless operation.

So, if you’re someone like me who sits on his computer all day long and uses headphones, you’re better off with the wired one. Sure, you can find some lightweight wireless headsets, but comparatively, they’re going to cost you a fortune.

Doesn’t Require Battery

Another big perk of having a wired headset is that it doesn’t rely on batteries that need to be charged. So, you can have uninterrupted gaming and music sessions for as long as you want. Moreover, the batteries tend to die and degrade over time.

Which can reduce the headset’s maximum operating hours at a single charge. Therefore, you must get a battery replacement to continue using your headset.

Features Latency-Free Operation

Although wireless headsets have come a long way and now offer less latency than before, despite these advancements, they’re still not as good as their wired counterparts.

The wired headsets continue to be superior and offer significantly lower latency compared to wireless headsets. As far as casual use or listening to music is concerned, you can go with either of those.

Connectivity Issues Are Rare

The wired headphones have always been the “plug and play” kind. Whereas, the wireless headsets need to be paired with your PC or any other supported device first. Moreover, the process isn’t always as seamless as with wired headsets because sometimes the headset gets into connectivity issues.

In such a scenario, you have to try multiple methods to get over the issue, like resetting the Bluetooth settings on your device or resetting the headset itself.

Repairs Are Comparatively Easy

Since wired headsets do not possess a plethora of components like wireless headsets, they are quite easy and cheap to repair, especially if you’re rocking a budget segment headset.

However, in the case of more expensive headsets, whether wired or wireless, the repair cost is going to be high. Nevertheless, the wired one would still be easier and less expensive to fix.

Mostly Has High-Fidelity Audio

The professional-grade headsets are mostly wired and come with DACs that enhance the sound quality. So, if you’re an audiophile, you better pick yourself a wired headset to avoid regrets.

They Are More Eco-Conscious

Simply because wired headsets can last longer as they don’t have any batteries, and you won’t be dumping those dead batteries into the environment.

So, yeah, wired headsets are less harmful to the environment as well. Even if the battery replacement is needed in years, it still does damage if not discarded properly.

Wired Headsets Still Hold Value

Even though everything is going the wireless route, the wired gadgets, specifically the headsets, still hold their value. They offer several features that the wireless headset simply can’t. So in my personal opinion, the little inconvenience of tangling wires is worth it for what it offers in return.
