Multiplayer In Sniper Elite 5 Is Still So Much Fun

Mark your target, adjust your aim, hold you breath, and shoot...

Story Highlights
  • Sniper Elite 5 has incredible mechanics that allow for a realistic sniping experience with bullet drop, distance, and wind direction.
  • You can choose to go about multiple ways on a huge map, and killing your enemy initiates a satisfying kill cam, even in multiplayer mode.
  • The Invasion mode lets you join and eliminate another player trying to finish his objective in campaign mode.

Sniper Elite 5, developed by Rebellion Development, is a perfect sniper simulator released in 2022. Its campaign mode is very impressive on its own, but its multiplayer also shines through even in 2024.

Gameplay & Mechanics

Being a sniper-focused game, this game doesn’t only leave you with a Sniper. Instead, you’re a hitman hired to take out key opponents, and you can do so using all the weapons and tools that you’re equipped with.

Customization

Players can tailor their weapon loadout according to their desired gameplay style. This allows them to be creative with their kills, so no match is the same. The progression system rewards players with new weapons, equipment, and upgrades, keeping the multiplayer fun.

Realistic Sniping Mechanics

With the game’s name being Sniper, this game takes sniping very seriously, and its mechanics are solid evidence of it. It integrates accurate bullet drop, wind direction, and distance into the gunplay, making it very realistic and, at the same time, challenging. Its mechanics have allowed players to make world records for the longest-distance shots.

Cinematic Kill Cam

If you align your shot perfectly, the infamous kill cam gets initiated, which shows our bullet traveling from our gun straight to the opponent’s body part we aimed at. This bullet then brutally thrashes your opponent’s organ or bone, and this feature is still present in multiplayer.

It’s extremely satisfying to have this feature in multiplayer because not only does it look like a Mortal Kombat’s fatality, but it also ensures that you get a confirmed kill, given the long shooting distances.

Detailed & Expansive Maps

One of the best features I love about this game is its huge, explorable maps. A vast land allows for multiple ways of approaching your enemies. This is a treat for both the stealth and aggressive players who can go about any of the approaches they desire.

Now, you can lay back, wait, and then engage with your enemies from a very long distance with your sniper, or you can sneak behind your enemies for a stealth kill. Conversely, you can also push with your SMG and wreak havoc, which is what most players do in multiplayer.

Variety of Multiplayer Modes

Much like other games, Sniper Elite 5 features many multiplayer games, including the classic Team Deathmatch and the intense Free-for-All. However, it also has a co-operative Overwatch Mode and a challenging Axis Invasion Mode.

Overwatch Mode

In this mode, two players have the same objective of taking out enemy AIs, with one being the Sniper and the other being the Spotter. The Spotter moves around the map, marks enemies, provides intel to the Sniper, and completes various mission objectives.

On the other hand, the sniper focuses on choosing their targets carefully, eliminating enemies from the distance, and managing their ammunition. They also clear the way for the Spotter by taking down enemies that are potentially threatening.

This coop game mode is a joy for both players as it requires back-and-forth communication, and each player depends on the other to complete the mission. This mode is very similar to the coop mode in Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Axis Invasion Mode

Axis Invasion Mode is one of the highlights of Sniper Elite 5’s multiplayer because it allows you to infiltrate the campaign mode of another player, so you take him out before he completes his single-player objective.

This means that a random player will play his story mode, and you’ll be one of the guards. The AI will stop that player. In this mode, you can tap our fellow AI soldiers, and they’ll inform us if they see the enemy.

Then, you can take down your opponent with a sniper by rushing in with other weapons or while he’s engaging with the AI soldiers. You and your opponent can also place landmines to take them out discretely if any one of you steps on it.

After you’ve killed your opponent, they can request a rematch, allowing for a strategy change for both players. This is very interesting because your enemy must complete the object, and you must take him out before he finishes it.

It also reminds me of sniping in the extremely outstanding Hitman Trilogy, where you focus on eliminating your enemies before they reach a certain point.
