- Valve is now offering SteamOS support for the Asus ROG Ally.
- This move will further expand Valve’s market in terms of handheld consoles.
- This update also improves Windows 11 support on the Steam Deck OLED.
Good news about the Asus ROG Ally has just surfaced. Valve will now offer complete compatibility with ROG Ally via SteamOS. For content, this is the same operating system that the Steam Deck uses.
Why it matters: The Asus ROG Ally is often considered the best and most popular Windows-based handheld. Therefore, this is a smart decision from Valve.
This may not come as a surprise since Valve’s original plan was to make its own operating system as widespread as possible. Indeed, you may know that the Steam Machine was made ten years earlier, but it was an unsuccessful project.
As Valve is offering its full support to the Asus ROG Ally, you will soon be able to utilize every extra button available that is similar to the Steam Deck’s layout. In this manner, following the release of the SteamOS update, every button on the ASUS ROG Ally will become programmable.
Valve also fulfills its own goal in this way. According to the company, the Steam Deck should not be the best-selling console globally. Instead, it serves as the ideal example for the rest of the industry to adopt SteamOS. Ultimately, this would grow the platform’s user base and revenue.
Apart from the additions for the Asus ROG Ally, SteamOS 3.6.8 improves Windows 11 support for the Steam Deck. The OLED model has finally received functional Bluetooth connectivity on Windows 11.
Valve is improving SteamOS compatibility across multiple portable consoles for further growth. Therefore, other popular handhelds, like the Lenovo Legion GO and MSI Claw, might be next in line to receive similar support.
