What We Recommend
Ryzen 7 9700X: This processor slightly outperformed its rival in our Ryzen 7 9700X vs Ryzen 7 5800X3D tests but costs about $70 more. With only minor improvements, it’s harder to recommend than the 5800X3D.
Ryzen 7 5800X3D: The tried-and-tested Ryzen 7 5800X3D performed very well in our benchmarks, getting close to the performance of the 9700X and even beating it in one game. The power consumption and temperatures were also very manageable, making this chip easily recommended.
Having discussed both these chips, we have to mention that this comparison is not entirely apples to apples. The Ryzen 9000X3D chips are slated to be released soon, so sit tight for when that comparison drops.
The Ryzen 7 9700X supports only DDR5 RAM, without any compatibility with DDR4 RAM. FAQs
