Blizzard Entertainment, the studio behind famous IPs like Overwatch and Diablo, is working on a new AAA RPG game. The studio has been under fire for some time because of the mediocre Overwatch 2, but they seem to be actively working on their next project.

Why it matters: Blizzard Entertainment has an inconsistent record when it comes to game development. They’ve had projects in the works for years, and they canceled them. So, while the idea is interesting, it’ll be seen if it turns into something.

The company previously worked on a survival game, and fans were stoked about it. Even the developers stated they were excited to showcase what they had done. However, when the Microsoft acquisition fell into place, the game got canceled despite years of development.

This new project has surfaced on the internet via the Linkedin profile of Chris McCabe, the Senior Director of Product Management. According to the profile, Blizzard’s new game is a AAA RPG FPS title being developed for PC and consoles.

The update doesn’t reveal much except that the game has been in development since April. However, considering Xbox has previously teased a StarCraft revival, fans speculate that Blizzard may be preparing to bring back this IP.

While the original launched in 1998 and was an RTS, fans have been demanding a StarCraft RPG for the longest time.

Still, there is a possibility that this project could be a brand-new IP. Since Overwatch 2 is not nearly as successful as Blizzard wanted it to be, perhaps the team is working on an entirely new first-person shooter IP.
