Final Fantasy 16 Fails To Maintain 60FPS At 4K Native Resolution

FPS Drops To 50s In The Most Demanding Areas!

Story Highlight
  • Final Fantasy 16 PC Port will finally be released tomorrow, but it still has optimization issues.
  • The game can’t maintain 60FPS on the likes of 4090 at 4k native resolution.
  • While it goes above 70FPS in many areas, the FPS can be dropped to the 50s in the most demanding places, like the Titan fight.

Final Fantasy 16 is one of the most demanding next-gen games in the market right now. The game was literally heating up many PS5s on launch. It’s a technical marvel and has some of the best boss fights.

The boss battle is quite demanding, and to achieve 60FPS on PS5, the resolution dropped to 720P. That said, the game is launching on PC tomorrow, and not that many fans are excited. That is because the demo pointed toward a very poorly optimized PC Port.

A new report has now revealed that FF16 fails to maintain 60FPS even on behemoths like 4090 at 4K native resolution.

Why it matters: If a game fails to maintain 60FPS on a graphics card like 4090, then it is pretty obvious how lacking the optimization is.

Final Fantasy 16 is One of The Most Demanding Games Right Now

DSOGaming recently conducted a thorough analysis of the game on the 4090, and the results were shocking. They used AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, and NVIDIA’s RTX 4090, so the specs are of the highest quality.

The analysis showed that the game’s most demanding areas can make cards like 4090 struggle to maintain 60FPS at the native 4k resolution. Most of the time, the FPS is over 70, highlighting the raw power of RTX 4090.

However, in demanding places, the framerates can fall to the 50s, which is something you wouldn’t expect from the most powerful graphics card on the market. The FPS can be improved by a lot when the DLSS 3 is enabled.

With the DLSS 3 enabled, this card can always achieve well over 80FPS. However, if you own a 4090, don’t expect it to maintain 60FPS during the Titan boss fight or other really demanding areas.

According to DSOGaming, after turning on DLAA and DLSS3, there weren’t any major input latency issues or visual artifacts. However, Square Enix has to improve the optimization, as this game will be a mess on older-gen cards

There is just a day left until the release of Final Fantasy 16 on PC, and it is still at the 6th spot on the Steam best-seller chart. Hopefully, Square Enix will fix the issues and attract more players.
