The Lake House DLC Opens Up a Clear Path For Alan Wake 3 and Remedy Connected Universe

Expert Verified By

The Lake House DLC fills out the story of main game and expands further by deepening the connection to the Remedy Connected Universe and setting up a sequel.

Story Highlight
  • Alan Wake’s The Lake House DLC lays the groundwork for an inevitable sequel.
  • It also takes a step deeper into the Remedy Connected Universe with Control crossover.
  • There are still plenty of mysteries that need solutions in future games.

Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment isn’t just a sequel, but a colossal advancement in their storytelling technique. The game’s use of the ever-present scary air, twisting storyline, and multiple links to Remedy’s ever-so-increasing universe got brilliant reviews.

The Lake House DLC was released a month ago, and Remedy has further gone into the risk zone. This extension not only fills up the plot of Alan Wake 2 but adds to the possibility of an Alan Wake 3 along with the Remedy-connected universe.

The expansion adds to the constantly blurring line between Alan and reality. The base game did hint at other Remedy games like Control, where FBC (Federal Beuru of Control was mentioned, but the DLC expands on it.

The most notable point here is that The Lake House paves a clear way for Alan Wake 3 and expands the universe further. I’ll go into detail about what events in the DLC stack up and direct towards a sequel. (Beware of spoilers)

Why it matters: Remedy has always been praised for smartly connecting all its games. The link has been made even stronger with the Lake House as it opens the deeper path into that connection.

The Lake House: A Gateway To Alan Wake 3

More than a DLC, The Lake House feels like a deliberate attempt to set up a sequel. It introduces some vital plots that could serve as the backbone for Alan Wake 3. For one, The Lake House is revealed to be a research facility by FBC directly connected to The Dark Place.

The events of the DLC destabilize the Dark Place, hinting at the melting boundary between reality and the other world. The expansion also delves deeper into Alan’s power which can change the fabric of reality. These could be the main plots for the sequel.

Then there is Saga, who was introduced in Alan Wake 2. She will undoubtedly serve a higher purpose in the sequel as an important ally to Alan and her personal life at stake.

The dual perspective in the game served as a focal point to the story, striking a counterbalance between both characters. The sequel could explore that further or maybe take a different direction. But, Saga will surely return.

Deepened Connection Between The Remedy Connected Universe

The deepest connection the DLC establishes is between Control and Alan Wake. It suggests that the Cauldron Lake and the Altered Time Events in Control as connected via the Dark Place. This means the events of DLC could affect Control 2

We know that the sequel to Control is currently in development. The game will no doubt explore the anomalies created in the franchise, which could ultimately lead to an inevitable Alan Wake 3.

The DLC has various connections to the Remedy Connected Universe

Maybe we could even see Jesse teaming up with Alan and Saga in the later connected games to finally put an end to the Dark Place. Also, there are a lot of unsolved mysteries that currently need answering.

Unsolved Mysteries and Looming Threats

There are still a lot of points that need answering in the connected universe. Just when we think we’ve seen everything the Dark Place is capable of, it comes up with something even scarier, keeping Alan trapped into ‘the upside down’.

So, I would love to see the full potential of the darkness the place holds and how our team will manage it. Then there are the Lake House experiments. What could be the possible implications and what are the probable outcomes are still questions.

We could see Alan teaming up with Jisse for future titles

With Alan still trapped in the Dark Place, can he ever come back to light? Can the petrifying place even be destroyed for good? All these things will most probably be answered with future games like Control 2 and the probable Alan Wake 3

Nonetheless, Remedy has built something very different for most games. They’ve developed a video game universe not so different from the likes of Marvel and DC. But, its horror and general thrill make it more enticing than almost anything.
