Design

Let’s take a closer look at both cables.

PRIME for Motherboard

The extension cable is 222×64.2x15mm in size. It has a simple design with a 16 AWG cable overlapped by optical-sleeved cables containing 36 ARGB LEDs. The optical sleeves are translucent white for a vibrant light show. The 150mm ± 10mm optical sleeve has ARGB LEDs housed in a frame on top of a 24-pin ATX connector with a glossy and matte finish featuring XPG branding. A single cable extends from this housing, connecting to the PSU’s 24-pin power cable.

Check the extension cable’s underside. It has white mesh-sleeved cables, 16 AWG thick, with pure copper strands for less resistance. The ARGB LED housing has combs for routing power cables and maintaining the cable shape. Access the PCB by removing three screws on the housing’s underside.

The 69cm+10cm flat cable is for XPG PRIME ARGB Extension Cable. It has an ARGB controller that works for the motherboard but not the VGA. The small controller has two buttons to toggle between 8 lighting modes and control speed in dynamic modes.

The controller is SATA-powered and has another 3-pin connector for connectivity. The length of the cable is 100cm, which is plenty.

PRIME for VGA

The overall dimension for the VGA ARGB extension cable is 222 x 28 x 15 mm. XPG has bundled two 8-pin extension cables in a single pack. This should cover most of the graphics cards in the market except for the 3000 series cards requiring triple 8-pin connectors or other beefy cards. These cables have the same design outfit as the ARGB extension cable for the motherboard.

WARNING: Ensure compatibility with your motherboard’s digital lighting headers, as connecting these 5VDC extension cables to incompatible 12V headers may potentially damage the LEDs.

The optical fibre sleeve has a length of 150mm ± 10mm. We have the same inner white colour sleeves on the power cables. The right side connector shown in the picture will be connected to the 6+2 pin PEG cable from the PSU. The other end goes to the graphics card. Small-size housing can be seen in the picture with XPG branding on it. A 3-pin ARGBN cable is coming out of this housing. The cable is flat and has a length of 69 cm+10 cm. Much like what we have seen on the motherboard ARGB extension cable, the ARGB extension cable for the VGA also has dual connectors on the power cable. Each connector has a 3-pin definition.
