Sonic Origins has been heavily speculated over the last few months. Fans of the franchise have been looking forward to some official announcement regarding the release date. Last year, the game was announced at the Sonic Central video presentation in May 2021. A teaser trailer was also displayed along with the announcement, which got the fans even more excited.

The teaser video included footage from the Retro Engine versions of the games, which included Sonic the Hedgehog (2013), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2013), and Sonic the Hedgehog CD (2011), as well as emulated footage from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles’ original 16-bit version. The exciting part is Takashi Iizuka, the CEO of Sonic Team, announced that the games in Sonic Origins would not be emulated but would instead be brand new ports. This will allow the game to be played on a complete 16:9 screen.

Sonic games are always nostalgic for the fans, additionally, the Sonic movie did very well, and the sequel is also doing great at the box office; it was only a matter of time since a new Sonic game. The announced Sonic Origins is supposed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the video game franchise.

Meanwhile, there have been other interesting developments as well. The game has already been rated in different regions, including Australia and South Korea. But the biggest revelation that has emerged is in the form of the game’s actual release date. Earlier today, as per PSN store New Zealand (can be accessed via New Zealand or Australian PSN account), the game’s release date looks set to be on June 22nd, 2022. The game launch is just a couple of months away, if it is true. Recently a Tweet showing a leaked art for the game has also surfaced on the internet.

It would make a lot of sense for the game to be launched in June as the sequel to the first movie is still very fresh, and it will only add to the hype of the game. The game is launching on all major platforms, including PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, and PC.

With Sonic Origins on the verge of releasing another Sonic game, Sonic Frontier is also speculated. Unlike Origins, Frontier is going to be a full-fledged next-gen open-world game. However, there’s no release date for it yet, but it is expected to launch somewhere at the end of 2022. As the release of the Sonic games draws nearer, our nostalgia is hitting us harder and making us more and more excited. We hope that the games are better than we remember and stay tuned for any further information regarding the news games.
