AMD has been doing exceptionally well over the last few years. The company became the market leader with Zen 3 Ryzen processors and had been doing well in the Graphics card market with Radeon RX 6000 series. The Red camp recently gave the world a glimpse at the upcoming Ryzen 7000 line-up based on Zen 4 architecture, and the performance looks impressive in leaked early benchmarks.

The new processors will be based on AM5, a brand new socket. As such, existing AMD users will need to upgrade their motherboards if they intend to move beyond Ryzen 5000 series processors.

AMD has already announced new chipsets on which new motherboards will be built by AIB partners of AMD, including X670EX670B650E, B650, and lastly, the A620. Flagship motherboards will feature support for PCI-e 5.0 and DDR5 memory modules. Despite several new features, it seems like the upcoming motherboards will be cheaper than initially expected.

This information comes from a reputed leaker, Moore’s Law is Dead. He has previously leaked several bits of information on upcoming PC hardware and has developed an excellent track record in the community.

As the tweet shows, @mooreslawisdead believes that X670E and X670 chipsets are cheaper than X570 chipsets. The new X670E motherboards will feature two chipsets, unlike the X570 motherboards. However, the cost of these chipsets will be less than the cost of a single X570 chipset according to the leaker.

Furthermore, he has also clarified that this might not be the most significant contributing factor to the motherboard costs. This would also mean that B650 motherboards could be cheaper than last year’s B550 motherboards and some B650 motherboards might end up selling more expensive than motherboard based on X670 chipset as there are lots of factors contribute to the cost of motherboard including PCB design, VRM, heatsink etc.

AMD ZEN 4 Ryzen 7000

With features like PCI-e 5.0 support, DDR5 memory, and an all-core 5GHz max boost clock, the Ryzen 7000 processors are shaping to be special. AMD has already established itself as the go-to brand for PC enthusiasts, and it seems like this trend will continue.

The same leaker has also claimed that AMD has undersold performance gains for Zen 4. According to Moore’s Law is Dead, the new processors can easily manage an all-core boost clock of 5.5GHz. This is exciting news for enthusiasts, and it will be interesting to see how things turn out later this year.

If this ends up being true, the B650 boards could be the best value option for potential buyers looking to switch to the new platform.
