The next generation of motherboards for Intel 13th Generation Raptor Lake processors will compete with AMD’s AM5 platform. It has been revealed that motherboards powered by the Intel Z790 chipset will support next-generation SSDs with PCIe 5.0 interface.
Although current Z690 motherboards for Alder Lake processors also allow this ability, it would only be possible using an adapter to take advantage of the main PCI-Express 5.0 x16 interface, so it is an improvement to consider for those who want the most advanced hardware.
Perhaps most interesting of all, Intel would introduce its Z790 motherboards as early as the end of this month in July or at the start of August at the latest, indicating that the processors are ready for launch. Still, Intel partners are busy with the necessary validations and testing for motherboards.
Let’s talk about the performance of Intel 13th Generation Raptor Lake desktop processors. It should be remembered that, according to the latest rumors, the Raptor Lake processors, against all odds, could outperform the AMD Ryzen 7000 as Intel’s multi-core performance will outperform the new AMD Zen4 architecture this time.
Though it should be noted that rumors and reports are based on the testing of engineering samples, this does not represent the final performance that will reach the market, as the final version will be determined by the frequencies and the final TDP based on testing.
These rumors were reinforced yesterday by the well-known leaker @Greymon55, who in a tweet limited himself to saying that the Intel Core i9-13900K, the company’s top-of-the-line processor, will offer the best single-core and multi-core performance!
If we talk about the availability of PCIe 5.0 consumer SSDs, we don’t think the new standard will arrive too soon; at least don’t expect the launch of new generation platforms. By the end of this year, PCIe 5.0 SSDs will come for enterprise SSDs — the products that end up in servers and data centers.
