The PSU recommendation chart from Asus was updated and first spotted by @momomo_us for both Nvidia and AMD. The recommended chart includes the GeForce RTX 40-series from Nvidia and the Radeon RX 7000 series from AMD.

The recommended PSU needed to power these high-end graphics cards is no secret so what Asus has suggested in the recommendation chart is quite accurate.

According to Nvidia, the minimum power supply GeForce RTX 4090 owners should invest in should be 850W even though the Founders Edition does not consume above 450W watts; the same is the case with Radeon 7900 XTX with a total board power of 355W.

Asus has recommended power supplies above the rated board power because it also accounts for other components and custom graphics cards from AIB partners. Some custom variants of GeForce RTX 4090 consume over 600W. Components aside from the GPU also play a huge role in recommending a PSU.

Mainstream platforms with an entry-level processor like the Core i5 or Ryzen 5 should be good with an 850W PSU, according to Asus. While high-end platforms paired with Core i7, Core i9, Ryzen 7, and Ryzen 9 should opt for a 1000W PSU instead.

The updated PSU recommended chart also includes recommendations for AMD Threadripper and Intel HEDT series, where Asus recommends at least a 1200W power supply.

Even though these power supply recommendations are high, this does not mean the real-world usage of the components combined would ever utilize the recommended power supply to its full extent. The real-world use of a system might be a bit lower, but it’s always safe to recommend a power supply higher than what is needed.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX will be officially available on December 13, 2022. What do you think about the recommended PSU table provided by ASUS? Would you be switching to Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards? Let us know in the comments section.
