Alan Wake 2 Recommends DLSS/FSR Across All Resolutions

Another Poor Port Coming Up?

Alan Wake 2 is the next big AAA release for the industry, bringing an end to a stacked year. This release has been crucial for Remedy, taking priority over other projects like the Max Payne remakes and Control 2.

The studio has teased over 20 hours of mind-bending horror that takes inspiration from the likes of Resident Evil. Ahead of the release, Remedy has also confirmed the system requirements for Alan Wake 2, asking for quite a hefty PC for all resolutions.

Why it matters: PC gamers have become weary of poor ports. Therefore, the smallest detail is enough to raise suspicion among the community.

In addition to the high-end PC hardware, the game recommends using FSR and DLSS for optimal performance.

Looking at the requirements, Remedy suggests a GeForce RTX 2060 and an Intel Core i5-7600K for 1080p low gameplay. Unfortunately, this kind of hardware will only net PC gamers 30FPS when used with Quality DLSS or FSR upscaling.

As such, Alan Wake 2 will effectively run at lower than 900p internal resolution to achieve 30FPS at low settings. For a better experience, the game asks for a GeForce RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 7 3700X.

Such specifications allow the survival horror title to run at 1080p medium settings once DLSS or FSR is set to Performance. Therefore, most mid-range setups will likely struggle to achieve respectable results without significant compromises.

Such requirements also have us concerned about the game’s console performance. The developers have recently confirmed a performance mode for PS5 and Xbox Series X, but Alan Wake 2 was designed around 30FPS on consoles.

Looking at these requirements, it is easy to see why Remedy aimed for 30FPS on consoles from the get-go.

Nonetheless, these requirements make it clear that Alan Wake 2 will not be an easy game to run. Whether these requirements are indicative of a poor port, however, remains to be seen.

Alan Wake 2 will also feature new technologies like path tracing and DLSS 3. For the best use of these technologies at 4K resolution, Remedy recommends the GeForce RTX 4080, a $1200 graphics card.

The number of broken PC ports in 2023 has not been an easy pill to swallow for many PC gamers. Following these system requirements, social media users have already begun to speculate about the fate of Alan Wake 2.

However, Remedy is trying its absolute hardest to push the boundaries of visuals, so these requirements may just be par for the course. Whatever the case may be, the game is scheduled for release on 27 October, so fans will not have to wait much longer to find out.
