AMD Now Offering 16GB Graphics Cards Starting At $499

More VRAM At Low Costs!

AMD might not have the advantage against Nvidia when it comes to ray-tracing performance, but the red team does have a lot of cheaper options that compete with Nvidia RTX cards in pure rasterization performance with more memory.

AMD’s marketing team just broke its silence over the value Radeon cards offer over Nvidia, especially with new AAA games demanding more VRAM. The last generation AMD Radeon 6000 cards are now selling at their lowest prices.

A picture shared by the AMD marketing team over Twitter shows how users are now paying more for Nvidia graphics cards with less memory. With the increasing VRAM requirements, AMD is offering 16GB graphics cards at $499.

Even the cheapest RTX 40 series card, like the GeForce RTX 4070, only comes with 12 GB of memory. It might not be an issue now, but the GeForce RTX 4070 will likely be memory bottlenecked in the long run.

Compared to Nvidia, the last generation Radeon 6000 series offers better value. The Radeon RX 6800 is now available for just $499 while offering 16 GB of VRAM. The same goes for the rest of the lineup, including the Radeon 6900 XT and 6950 XT. All of them come equipped with 16 GB of RAM.

AMD has always struggled to convince users to buy it over Nvidia. The red team might make a comeback by offering more memory and similar performance to Nvidia cards, especially if the price is right.

AMD has also come quite far with RDNA 3. The Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon 7900 XTX are relatively better value options than Nvidia, with more VRAM. Currently, Nvidia users need to spend over $1000 on the GeForce RTX 4080 for 16GB VRAM.

Specifications of the upcoming mid-ranged RDNA3 cards were also leaked by RedGamingTech, including the Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT. According to the leaked information, the AMD Radeon 7800 XT will be based on a Navi 31 chip with 16 GB of VRAM. The card is also expected to perform similarly to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, at least in rasterization performance, peaking at 285W.

On the other hand, the AMD Radeon 7700 XT will also come equipped with 16 GB of memory and is expected to compete against the GeForce RTX 4070, offering more memory. The card will have a total rated board power of just 225W, similar to its rival.

Manufacturers like AMD and Nvidia make most of their profits selling mid-range to low-end graphics cards. Both are also working on launching the next mid-range cards on the market. However, users will be looking at options offering more VRAM now, as recent AAA game titles require a lot more than last year.

Therefore, it is an excellent strategy to highlight a competitor’s weak points while advertising a product. But doing so might have some consequences in the future. Hopefully, AMD will be able to keep up its claim and offer both mid-range and low-end cards with sufficient memory.
