Assassin’s Creed Mirage Devs Claim Smaller World Allows For More Details

Focusing On Denser Environments In Baghdad!

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is different than the IP’s last entry in numerous ways. While the game was initially meant to expand the lore of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, it offers an experience closer to the older games in the series.

The game is considerably shorter, lasting only 20–24 hours. Its setting is also significantly scaled back, but this decision comes with its own benefits compared to the last few Assassin’s Creed Games.

In a recent interview with Comicbook, members of the development team stated that the game’s compact world enabled it to be much more detailed and dense.

Why it matters: The upcoming release marks the first time Assassin’s Creed is cutting back on scope after games like Assassin’s Creed Origins pushed the franchise in a new direction that required greater scope with each entry.

The game’s producer, Fabian Salomon, stated:

“Our world is smaller, but at the same time, we had to treat it like a city that is way denser than in the previous games.”

He added that bringing dense cities, winding streets, and parkour back is a challenge in itself, and working on Baghdad in the game as the player experiences it is also a complex endeavor.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage visual director, Jean-Luc Sala, added:

“Making less can help us to make more.”

The visual director also elaborated that the team wanted to be focused on the city above everything else, though the game is not limited to Baghdad alone.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is focused on the finer details, allowing players to spot landmarks and houses from far away rooftops. The team highlighted that this was something that could not be achieved during the first Assassin’s Creed game.

However, the details are also preserved up close. Sala claimed that this aspect will carry over to the smallest objects in places like the stores and streets, leading to an immersive experience.

Ubisoft appears to have learned from its previous mistakes with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as a common criticism was that it was too long and lacked enough engaging content in the open world.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is arriving on October 5, which is earlier than initially announced. Not too long ago, Ubisoft announced it would be bringing the release date ahead as the game was ready to be released.

The game will put players in the role of Basim, an assassin living in the golden age of Baghdad, as he learns about the creed, its rules, and the larger assassin brotherhood. Surprisingly, the game is also headed to the iPhone 15 Pro in 2024.
