AC Mirage Dev Working on New Assassin’s Creed Game

Thanks To Positive Reception For Mirage!

Story Highlights
  • Ubisoft Bordeaux is a smaller studio that recently created Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
  • The developer has hired Rik Godwin as a lead writer and could be working on a new game.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, while being somewhat safe compared to other games in the series, has been successful. It became Ubisoft’s biggest Xbox Series S|X and PS5 launch while outselling Spider-Man 2 in the UK last month.

This reception appears to have earned Ubisoft Bordeaux another shot at the series, with the studio seemingly working on a new Assassin’s Creed game.

Why it matters: Ubisoft Bordeaux is a smaller and inexperienced team compared to the biggest teams under the French gaming giant. Therefore, being able to create another game would be a massive opportunity for the developer.

Ubisoft Bordeaux has now recruited Rik Godwin as the lead writer of the studio. According to his latest tweet, Rik Godwin is working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise, possibly hinting at another game from this developer.

Previously, it was reported that there were around eleven Assassin’s Creed games in development by various studios. Among them, Mirage and Nexus VR have already been released, meaning there are nine left.

However, with Ubisoft focusing on this series as its biggest priority, it could have added another game to this list. We already know that a remake of Black Flag is also being planned.

As for Ubisoft Bordeaux, the team could have been tasked with another smaller-scale project like Mirage. It was initially working on DLC for Valhalla, so the possibility of a similar expansion for a future game cannot be ruled out either.

For now, Assassin’s Creed Red is the biggest game coming next. With an expected release in 2024, the project is a massive undertaking for the studio since it is finally taking the IP to Japan.

Nonetheless, Assassin’s Creed Mirage has set up Ubisoft Bordeaux for a promising future. The studio’s first release has not been the best game in the series, but players have enjoyed it as a return to the roots. We hope to see the studio growing further for a more ambitious game next.
