  • However, its Game Director recently revealed that 30FPS isn’t their target on the Series X.
  • Carrie Patel revealed that Obsidian wants to deliver a beautiful world at the best frame rate possible.

Avowed is one of the most promising upcoming RPGs from Obsidian. While many fans have been concerned over various mechanics in-game many of the concerns vanished after the final hands-on previews.

Many media have highlighted nothing but positive things about the game and fans should look forward to its combat and open-world. That said, the Game Director & Senior Narrative Designer of Obsidian recently revealed in an interview that 30FPS isn’t their target as they will hit the best frame rate possible.

Why it matters: Recently many first-party Xbox games have been launched with 30FPS on the Series X. So, fans were bummed with the idea of playing Avowed at 30FPS.

Speaking to Parris in a recent interview Carrie Patel, Obsidian’s Game Director hinted toward the final product running at 60FPS on the Xbox Series X

I want to clarify 30 FPS [on Xbox Series X] is not our target, we will hit that at the very least. We are fully into performance optimization, we want to fully deliver a beautiful world at the best frame rate we possibly can, we’re working on that right now.

-Carrie Patel

To those unaware, it was previously confirmed by Obsidian that Avowed will run at 30FPS on Xbox Series X|S so fans were pretty upset. However, now, there is a lot of hope that the developer will be able to meet the 60FPS requirement.

Obsidian’s Upcoming RPG Looks Promising

This seems very likely as the game’s final previews are full of praises and there don’t seem to be many performance issues. So, while the developer is focusing on optimizing the game as much as possible it still has time to work on the frame rates.

Patel didn’t explicitly state that the game will 100% run at 60FPS on Xbox Series X so it is better to take it with a grain of salt but at least there is hope now.

Avowed was initially targeting a 2024 release window but it was delayed and is now set to release on 18 Feb.

What do you think about what Carrie Patel said about 30FPS being their target on Xbox Series X? Do you think the upcoming RPG from Obsidian will be playable on 60FPS? Let us know in the comments section below or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers forums.
