Around 100 Developers Laid Off!

CD Projekt Red is best known for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and the developer is regarded as one of the best in the industry when it comes to AAA RPG titles.

While the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was a massive setback for the studio, CD Projekt Red has recently noted that the game has mostly positive ratings on Steam. Nonetheless, the studio is moving ahead with various plans for the future.

With projects like multiple Witcher games and a massive sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has its hands full. However, the developer has recently announced a round of layoffs at the studio.

Witcher 4

CD Project Red plans to lay off around 100 employees, which makes up around 9% of the staff.

The CD Projekt RED CEO announced that they are looking for teams that are efficient and agile. The studio has plenty of talented developers, but the new approach will focus on using them for the right roles. He said:

“We not only want to have the best people but also the right teams.”

However, he also clarified that CD Projekt Red is overstaffed. Various talented developers have made incredible contributions to the studio recently, but the CEO claims they will not have much to do at the studio next year.

As such, the layoffs are an important measure for CD Projekt Red. Still, the developers will not be laid off immediately. This will allow team members to plan ahead and look for opportunities before their current position is terminated.

While this is disappointing for the nearly 100 developers, the CD Projekt CEO hopes they can continue to maintain a good relationship after the departure.
