Peripheral 4 Pin 6x [Three on a single cable] 760mm
FDD Cable 4 Pin 1x

As the computer is comprised of multiple sophisticated circuits, it necessitates one to ensure uninterrupted availability of different stable voltages i.e. +5V, -5V, +12V, -12V, 3.3V etc at respective terminals of a power supply. In addition to consideration of stable voltages, current requirements also change on runtime – gets steered by the load connected at the output stage of the power supply.

But that consideration of parameters does not end only in voltage and current requirements, it stretches up to the features like harmonic factor, cross load regulation, noise resilience and other safety parameters including overvoltage protection OVP and overcurrent protection OCP etc to ensure the optimized and standardized provision of power to PC.

The MWE Gold’s full-bridge design coupled with LLC, Synchronous, and DC to DC topology technologies offer reliable and stable voltage outputs. Here is the output table of the unit:

Testing

As we don’t have the necessary equipment to measure the performance of the PSU particularly its waveforms to determine to true performance potential, we will be doing simple software-based monitoring of the voltages under the load to see if there is any abnormality followed by a test using the Thermaltake PSU Tester.

Following test bench was used for this purpose:

  • Intel i7 6850k [4.3GHz at 1.350V]
  • Noctua NH-U12S
  • Asus ROG Rampage V Edition 10
  • Ballistics Elite 4x4GB @ 3000MHz
  • Nvidia GTX 1080 FE
  • Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
  • Seagate 2TB Barracuda
  • WD 6TB Black

AIDA64 was used to stress the components at a time for 15 minutes and voltages were monitored using the HWMonitor on Microsoft Windows 10 x64 1709. The maximum value on the +5V was 5.000V, on +3.3V was 3.328V, and on +12V was 12.192V with minimum value on the +5V being 4.920V, on +3.3V being 3.248V and on +12V being 12.000V. All these values are well within the Intel ATX 12V V2.31 standards.

Thermaltake Dr. Power II has the functionality to test the ATX 20+4 pin, CPU 4+4 pin, PCIe 6 or 8 pins, SATA, and peripheral connectors and report the corresponding voltages by putting a load on the PSU. It also has the ability to report the issues with the PSU.

The reported voltages need to be compared with the Intel Standard and the Measuring Range of the testing equipment. Below mentioned table have the Intel Standard, Measuring Range and the Reported Voltages:

cooler master power supply 650w

All the tested voltages fall within the Intel’s standard. Here are the connectors’ wise reported voltages:

Connector Reported Voltage (V)
ATX 24-Pin +11.9
CPU 4+4 Pin +12V +11.8
PCIe 6/8 Pin +12V +11.9
Peripheral +5.01, 3.3V
SATA +5.01, 3.3V
