Cyberpunk 2077 Sold Over 25 Million Units In Less Than 3 Years

Phantom Liberty Went Beyond 3 Million Sales!

Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to go down as the biggest comeback of the gaming industry. However, it was already successful in 2020, selling over 8 million units through pre-orders alone.

By the end of December 2020, it had sold over 13 million units, but this progress slowed down after its disastrous launch. The game has finally moved beyond the shadow of its poor 2020 release after the recent update and DLC.

It dominated the Steam best-sellers chart over the last week, and CDPR confirms Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 25 million units.

Why it matters: This milestone makes Cyberpunk 2077 more impressive than CDPR’s magnum opus, The Witcher 3, as the former achieved this figure much faster.

During the recent investor presentation, the CEO of CD Projekt RED, Adam Kiciński, announced the new milestones for Cyberpunk 2077.

He also confirmed that it took The Witcher 3 4.5 years to reach 25 million sales. However, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached the milestone in less than three full years, making it CDPR’s fastest-seller of all time.

In terms of overall sales, The Witcher 3 is still ahead, reaching the 50 million mark in May, but it would not be surprising to see Cyberpunk 2077 pulling ahead in the near future.

Apart from the base game, its expansion has also sold well, thanks to incredible reviews.

Prior to the release, CDPR had already announced that pre-orders for the expansion were strong. The CEO has now confirmed that Phantom Liberty has sold over 3 million units in just a week.

CDPR also shared a graph highlighting that a large majority of Phantom Liberty players come from the PC platform. Specifically, 68% of the game’s population is on PC, while PS5 and Xbox players account for 20% and 13% of players, respectively.

Following such accomplishments, CDPR has closed the chapter of Cyberpunk 2077.

This is a worthy conclusion for the RPG, highlighting the studio’s talents and perseverance through a difficult time. CDPR is finally ready to move on, focusing on The Witcher franchise and the eventual sequel to its latest title.
