"No Loading Screens When You’re Exploring."

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be among Capcom’s biggest AAA titles for 2024. Following the release of the first game in 2012, the franchise has gathered a massive fanbase due to its unique RPG systems.

This fanbase has been anticipating Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a while, and Capcom has recently provided several new details at TGS 2023. Among other things, director Hideaki Itsuno confirms the game will not feature loading screens during exploration.

Why it matters: The first game did not get mainstream recognition and was considered an underrated gem from Capcom.

Speaking to VGC, the director confirmed Dragon’s Dogma 2 will not break up exploration with loading screens. He stated that exploration of dungeons, caves, and other parts of the world will be seamless thanks to this implementation.

Hideaki Itsuno said:

“Speaking to the seamlessness of the world, there are no loading screens when you’re exploring.”

This statement came in response to being questioned about freedom of exploration during the open-world gameplay of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Itsuno went on to say that if there is a cut scene, the game will load it in and then load players back into free roam, but in terms of entering dungeons, caves, or exploring other parts of the world, players will not run into loading screens.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Recently, games like Starfield have received criticism for the excessive interruptions in exploration due to loading screens. While the game has a massive focus on freedom and exploration, it often brings things to a halt when the game loads a new section.

However, it appears Capcom’s upcoming title will not repeat this mistake. While loading screens have been an essential component of games in the past, new hardware like the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X have allowed developers to minimize their use.

Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will also feature immediate fast travel and nearly instant switching thanks to SSD technology,

As for Capcom, the studio has been focused on seamless experiences for a while. Games like Resident Evil 2 had minimal loading screens, allowing players to spend as much time in gameplay as possible.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be the developer’s most ambitious project in this regard. The game aims to put player freedom at the center of its RPG experience, using unique mechanics like the pawn system for an engaging RPG.
