Around Half of the Size of Elden Ring!

Story Highlights
  • Shadow of the Erdtree is expected to be half the size of Elden Ring.
  • Two popular YouTubers expect the expansion to offer around 25 hours of content.
  • FromSoftware has been working on the expansion for nearly two years.

Elden Ring surprised many gamers worldwide as the next evolution of FromSoftware’s game design. The boss fights, the environment, the OST, and everything else was so refined that the game won Game of the Year in 2022.

This release has sold over 20 million copies, and FromSoftware confirmed its long-term support for the title recently. One part of this support comes from Shadow of the Erdtree, an expansion that has been in development for over a year.

While we don’t know much about the expansion, it may offer over 20 hours of content.

Why it matters: Elden Ring can easily take up around 50 hours for the base game. Therefore, an expansion offering around half of this content will be quite impressive for the fandom.

Fightincowboy is one of the most popular Dark Souls enthusiasts among content creators. Along with Oroboro and Vaati Vidya, he has been invited to FromSoftware events in the past, providing early previews for games like Armored Core 6.

Fightincowboy expects the DLC to be around 50% the size of the main content in Elden Ring, which takes around 50 hours to complete. Therefore, the DLC is expected to last at least 25 hours.

Another famous content creator, Oroboro, during a live stream, answered a question with:

“if you are expecting a 25 hour long adventure then the DLC will probably meet your expectations & then some.”

Both of these statements imply that the DLC will be around 25 hours long. Following this statement, Oroboro has deleted the livestream’s recording, hinting that this may have been an unintentional slip-up from the content creator.

With Shadow of the Erdtree being in development for such a long time, we would not be surprised to see the expansion being even longer.

Elden Ring

Previously, it was reported that Shadow of the Erdtee combines two DLC releases.

Combining all of these hints and reports, a 20-25-hour runtime does not sound too far-fetched. Whatever the case may be, we would be more than willing to spend 20-25 more hours in this incredible world since Elden Ring was such a joy to play.

While there is no release window for the expansion, a leak suggests Shadow of the Erdtree is set for a February 2024 release. The leak also suggested that the date will be confirmed at The Game Awards, so fans should stay tuned for more information next month.
