The newest entry to the Fable game series was announced back in 2020. A small cinematic trailer was revealed then, after which we got no news information or insights into the game.

Along with the trailer, it was also announced the game would be developed by the developer of Forza Horizon 5, Playground Entertainment. Fable 4, which will be an RPG, is being developed on the same engine as Forza. However, in a recent interview, a former employee of Playground stated that Playground is having difficulty maintaining the game’s scope as it is very different from the racing games that they are used to.

Also, Gaz, an industry insider on the colteastwood podcast, stated that Playground is having difficulties with the game mechanics.

This trend took off on Twitter, and finally, Senior Producer of Fable at Playground Entertainment, Amie, has come forward with a statement. She explained in a Tweet that it is very normal for a AAA game title to be downscaled, and every game production must have gone through it at least once during the production.

Amie insists that the game development is going perfectly fine while also adding that games in which the scope isn’t measured correctly are often delayed or have bugs that they want to avoid at all costs. Other developers and Twitter users supported the statement, solidifying her statement that this happens in every development process.

The scoping process is completely fine considering that we’ve had examples of games in the past that tried to do so and failed miserably, the biggest example of which is Cyberpunk 2077. We don’t have any launch date for the game, but it is expected to be exclusive to Xbox and PC. Whether it will be a timed exclusive is yet to be seen.
