Fallout 5 Still Several Years Away!

Story Highlight
  • Fallout 5 will be Bethesda’s next game after The Elder Scrolls 6.
  • Bethesda’s Studio Design Director has stated that the team needs time to make great content.
  • This likely means that Fallout 5 will not arrive for several more years.

Bethesda’s curated wasteland is once again trending as Fallout has found itself going through a resurgence following the promising TV adaptation of the franchise on Amazon Prime.

After unexpected boosts to Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 player counts on Steam, the developers have addressed this IP’s future. According to Bethesda, Fallout 5 will not arrive anytime soon since it takes time to make great stuff.

Why it matters: Fallout 76 launched in a poor state, so the team is unlikely to rush another entry in this IP.

When discussing the timeline of Fallout 5, Emil Pagliarulo addressed the possibility of this RPG taking around eight years to arrive. He commented that development is never guaranteed to follow a specific pattern.

Starfield took more time since the studio wanted to upgrade its tech. Elsewhere, it assisted with work on Fallout 76 at the same time. There’s no telling if it will run into similar hurdles for Fallout 5.

The developer described the content as taking a lot of time because they want it to be great. Even with the talent at Bethesda’s disposal, the team cannot rush out releases since that results in disastrous consequences.

Bethesda RPGs typically take a very long time to create. Starfield was in the works for nearly a decade, and with Fallout 5 expected to be much bigger than Fallout 4, it might take even longer.

The team is also fully engaged in work on an early build of The Elder Scrolls 6. This game is expected to take a few more years, with Xbox predicting a launch around 2028 or later.

Many fans have suggested that Bethesda should work with Obsidian Entertainment again. As the team continues to struggle with multiple projects, perhaps Fallout New Vegas 2 from Obsidian Entertainment could keep fans busy and make the wait less painful.

Anyhow, we don’t see the studio launching Fallout 5 before the next generation. This should, however, make the game more ambitious due to the latest technology.
