Fans Want PlayStation To Remake The Infamous Series

Nothing Like Infamous On PlayStation Today!

Story Highlights
  • The Infamous IP became popular on the PS3 but has remained dormant since 2014’s Second Son.
  • Following a remaster announcement from Naughty Dog, fans believe PlayStation should consider a revival of Sucker Punch Production’s last IP.

PlayStation is currently the home of superhero games. With Insomniac leading the charge, Spider-Man 2 is already PlayStation’s fastest-selling first-party release and the developer’s best-reviewed release in many years.

However, before Spider-Man, PlayStation fans got their superhero fix from Infamous, an IP created by Sucker Punch Productions. This franchise was last revisited in 2014, and this gap has spurred requests for a remake from the fans.

Why it matters: The first two Infamous games are among the few PS3 exclusives trapped on the console due to a lack of native backward compatibility for this hardware on modern PlayStation consoles.

Am I the only one who would gladly pay $70 for an Infamous 1 and 2 Remake?

Following the recent announcement of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Redditor OGGamer6 asked PlayStation fans about potential remakes of the first two Infamous games.

The Redditor claimed he would gladly fork out $70 for updated versions of these games. This post caught the attention of many longtime fans, with hundreds of Redditors agreeing with this sentiment.

On the other hand, some suggested that PlayStation should make an entirely new Infamous game. Following 2014’s Infamous Second Son, Sucker Punch Productions has moved on to Ghost of Tsushima.

The studio is currently expected to be working on Ghost of Tsushima 2, so a new entry might not be possible. Still, fans hope to see something for this IP after PlayStation seemingly forgot about it.

Infamous debuted in 2009 for PS3. This game offered superhero-like abilities that made for an exciting traversal system, thrilling gameplay, and a memorable narrative.

The first two games were among the highlights of the PS3’s first-party library. In 2014, this franchise came to the PS4 with Infamous Second Son. While this entry shared a similar gameplay formula, it fell short in the narrative department.

Infamous Second Son

For those looking to play Infamous today, Second Son is the only game natively available on PS4 and PS5. Fortunately, it runs at a rock-solid 60FPS on the PS5 due to an uncapped frame rate.

The core gameplay loop, including traversal and combat, is also enjoyable to this day, and the game is easily among the most visually stunning from the early PS4 era.

With no real way for fans to play the original Infamous games natively, many are hopeful for a remake. PlayStation has shown no intention to revisit this series, but the gaming giant remade Demon’s Souls out of nowhere in 2020, so nothing is off the table.
