Recently a rumor was spread instantly on internal that Sony is in talks to acquire the parent of FromSoftware, Kadokawa. While the rumor had a lot of backing it wasn’t able to be confirmed officially.

However, Kadokawa has just recently issued a statement confirming that Sony has indeed offered to acquire the company. While the acquisition is in talks no decision has been made yet.

Why it matters: Sony acquiring Kadokawa, one of the massive companies might upset the gaming industry and can cause concerns of monopoly.

FromSoftware parent company, Kadokawa has officially issued a statement confirming that Sony has indeed sent a letter with an intent to acquire the company. While the Japanese publisher has not agreed to the offer yet it hasn’t declined it either

There are some articles on the acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter ‘the Company’) by Sony Group Inc. The Company has received an initial letter of intent to acquire the Company’s shares, but no decision has been made at this time.

This confirms that Sony intends to acquire the FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa. The company has also noted that if there are any facts that should be announced in the future an appropriate announcement will be made

It seems like the company while not fully seems to be enticed by the offer. However, fans might not really want Sony to acquire the Japanese publisher as the gaming giant already holds rights to Bloodborne and hasn’t listened to the fandom’s demand at all.

That said, sooner or later we will officially hear from Kadokawa about the acquisition but the regulators might not let it slide even if both companies want the merger to happen.
