Ghost of Tsushima Fails To Reach Top 10 Steam Best-Sellers After Delisting

Sony Hurt Its Own Sales This Time!

Story Highlight
  • Ghost of Tsushima was just delisted on Steam in over 100 countries.
  • While it was on its way to the top 10 Steam best-sellers list, a large wave of pre-order refunds knocked it further down.
  • In the aftermath, the game has failed to reach this list five days ahead of launch.

Ghost of Tsushima, one of the PlayStation exclusives that PC fans have been waiting years for, is finally coming in just a few days. The excitement for this port was so high that the PC port immediately became Steam’s sixth best-seller after the announcement in March.

However, the game has met the same fate as Helldivers 2. It has been delisted in the majority of countries, with fans calling for a boycott. Following automatic refunds for many users, this port failed to breach the top 10 Steam best-sellers five days before release.

Why it matters: Sucker Punch Productions promised fans that the single-player mode would be playable without the PSN requirement, but Sony still went ahead and harmed its own sales.

Hades 2 remains at the top, and other games that are on sale right now are dominating the charts. Even if we exclude Steam Deck and various free-to-play titles from the list, Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t reach the top 10.

It currently sits just outside this list, which is still impressive given the recent delisting. We have also noted that Ghost of Tsushima was tracking much better two days ago, and it would have already made it into the top 10 had it not been delisted.

Following Sony’s decision to delist the port, it immediately dropped several spots. Fortunately, sales appear to have picked up again since yesterday, bringing this title closer to the top 10.

For a franchise as big as Ghost of Tsushima, we consider this result underwhelming. Sony has undoubtedly harmed its sales after this decision, and the damage may have already been done.

Ghost of Tsushima’s Hype Was Quite High, But The Recent Controversy Has Had A Severe Impact

Since Helldivers 2 is still not up in the delisted regions, it seems unlikely for Sony to resolve Ghost of Tsushima’s situation before the launch next week. At this rate, the gaming giant is bound to suffer worse sales after losing out on the launch excitement.

PlayStation needs to ensure such restrictions are clearly communicated moving forward. With God of War Ragnarok expected to be the next PC port, we don’t expect any more problems for a while.

Still, the gaming giant must ensure that PC users are made aware of region restrictions before they spend money on pre-orders.
