God of War Ragnarok Still A Fan Favorite!

Story Highlights
  • The PS5 has a vast library of first-party games after being on the market for three years.
  • PlayStation fans believe games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Horizon Forbidden West are among its best exclusives.
  • Among such games, God of War Ragnarok appears to be the game of choice for the fans.

The PS5 is officially three years old today. Having launched in 2020, the console offers over 2500 games today, powering incredible gaming experiences for over 46 million gamers worldwide.

Like other PlayStation consoles, the PS5 boasts a varied library of first-party games. The latest addition to this library, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, launched last month, setting a new record for day-one sales.

With the PS5 turning three years old, gamers recently took to Reddit to discuss its first-party lineup so far. Despite the incredible reception of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, PlayStation fans still believe God of War Ragnarok is the best first-party title on the console.

Why it matters: The God of War IP has been a fan-favorite of PlayStation users since the days of the PS2 console. However, its latest direction has taken the series to new levels of success.

Now that Spider-Man 2 has had some time to sink in, how would you rank the 4 major first-party sequels on PS5?

Discussing the major first-party titles from Sony released over the last three years, gamers on Reddit narrowed their favorites down to God of War Ragnarok, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

While all of these games are special in their own right, the most upvoted comments put Kratos’ latest adventure ahead of every other PlayStation game, though this was not an easy decision to make, according to them.

At release, God of War Ragnarok received unanimous praise for expanding the formula of 2018’s soft reboot, concluding the story of Kratos in the Norse realm. It offered another look at a more mature and complex version of Kratos, as he strived to save his son and protect his allies from gods like Odin.

Keeping everything that made the 2018 release special in the first place, Santa Monica added new abilities to combat, expanding the satisfying and brutal gameplay of modern God of War. It also placed a greater emphasis on Norse mythology and the figures within this realm.

Combining these aspects, the studio was able to deliver an exciting and gut-wrenching narrative, a gratifying combat system, and a journey that millions are likely to remember for many years to come.

God of War Ragnarok is also the highest-rated game on Metacritic among all of these titles, highlighting that the critics agree with this conclusion.

While it has been over a year since this beloved PlayStation game was released, Santa Monica appears to be hard at work on a sequel. According to rumors, a DLC or stand-alone game is also in the works, so fans can rest assured that more enjoyable content is on the way.
