After the phenomenal success of Apple’s AirTag, which has sold millions of units worldwide since its launch, Google seems to be following in the footsteps of Apple by introducing its smart tracker.
Smart Trackers are now placed on many valuable items such as wallets, phones, laptops, and even cars. Not only do they help locate a missing item, but they also help if your belongings are stolen.
Until now, only Samsung was the leading company manufacturing android smart tags, but this will soon change. As a reliable source, Mishaal Rahman spotted the existence of such a product and tweeted about the “Locator tag.”

"Locator tag" likely refers to Bluetooth trackers (think AirTag, Tile) that in this context support Google Fast Pair.

Another developer “Kuba Wojciechowski’ also tweeted regarding this and even said that Google’s Smart Tracker has been codenamed “grogu.” although its affiliation with the Star Wars character remains a mystery.

As rumored, the smart tag will be officially introduced this year, along with this year’s Pixel tablets and the new Pixel eight series. Google’s products have been fan favorites whenever they are launched, and we hope this to be no different.
Google also has an advantage over Apple as most of the devices in almost every country run on Android, so the tracking is expected to be more reliable due to its vast network.
Also, google will be able to avoid better privacy concerns raised by users regarding using AirTags for unethical activity, such as tracking someone without their knowledge, by utilizing system notifications.
