While 2023 is about to end, Hogwarts Legacy has remained relevant due to the cross-gen release. The game runs at stable 900/30 FPS on PlayStation 4, which is quite a feat for a next-gen game ported to last-gen consoles.

It is also coming to the Nintendo Switch on 14 November. However, one week before the official launch, early footage of the Nintendo Switch port has arrived. Surprisingly, Hogwarts Legacy appears to run well on the console.

Why it matters: The Nintendo Switch is significantly weaker than the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Therefore, it is challenging to run last-gen games on the console, let alone games designed around the PlayStation 5.

Talhelf, a user on X, has shared the first gameplay video of Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo  Switch. The game seems to run fairly smoothly without any significant performance issues.

While the gameplay is very brief, it does not show any obvious frame rate drops or stutters. In contrast, a game like Mortal Kombat 1 always seemed like a poor fit for the handheld and later became a joke on social media due to its poor port.

If this video is anything to go by, the port is very well optimized for the Nintendo Switch. Reactions to this footage have also been positive, with many fans now hopeful about the full release.

Many believed that the game was another disaster in the making, but this gameplay video has been a pleasant surprise. Our initial impressions are also positive, but we will wait for further testing before drawing any conclusions.

Hogwarts Legacy was reportedly the most successful release in Q1 2023, accumulating more than $1 billion in sales. Several months later, the game is poised to relive its success on a new platform.

While many games have been released since the Harry Potter game exploded in popularity, its release will likely make a huge splash on the Nintendo Switch. According to reports, a sequel is also in development, so fans can expect to see more Harry Potter games in the near future.
