With portable gaming becoming popular again, Lenovo has decided to join the market with its own offering. Last month, leaks confirmed that a handheld was in development from the company, which was followed by leaked images of the Lenovo Legion Go.
The handheld has now been officially announced, and Lenovo has confirmed the specifications of the Legion Go.
To stand out from the competition, Lenovo includes 10 programmable buttons on the removable controllers, which are reminiscent of the Joycons from the Nintendo Switch.
The handheld includes a D-pad, a trackpad, and a mouse wheel. It also features a 6-axis gyroscope for motion controls, and Lenovo has included a superior screen compared to competitors like the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch.
The Lenovo Legion Go is built around an 8.8-inch IPS panel with a QHD+ resolution of 2560×1600, along with a 144Hz refresh rate. It supports a maximum brightness of 500 nits and covers 97% of the DCI-P3 color space.
Lenovo has opted for the AMD Ryzen Z1 series APUs, and the well-known AMD RDNA 3 architecture returns to do the heavy lifting in graphical workloads, enabling the handheld to keep up with modern games.
In terms of memory, Lenovo uses 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM for the handheld. Due to this capable hardware, the company highlights that the handheld can easily keep up with or outpace its competition.
The Lenovo Legion Go goes above and beyond in terms of storage, packing a 512GB or 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. Users are also allowed to expand this storage through a microSD card.
Like its rival handhelds, the Lenovo Legion Go uses the popular Windows 11 OS to provide a familiar and seamless software experience.
The extremely powerful Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU is powered by a 49.2 Whr battery with ‘Super Rapid Charge Express’ technology for fast charging support.
While the battery is unlikely to last very long for such powerful components, Lenovo’s fast charging technology should make the wait between each charging session much more bearable.
Lenovo confirms the console will be released in October, launching for a starting price of $699. This makes it much more expensive than its competition, but the added benefits may be worth it for some users.
